Aarzoo
Hey there! I am Aarzoo and I have spent my whole life surrounded by dogs and cats, and always felt that these furry friends had a huge hand in raising me. They have raised me to be a warm and empathetic soul.
Having dogs and cats at home while also volunteering with different shelters back in India, I have always had a special place for them in my heart. I currently live in Amsterdam and met my little piece of joy Queso through Rescue Dogs and Cats NL. After adopting him, I felt this pull to help other families find their perfect furry soulmates too, so I started volunteering at Rescue Dogs and Cats NL. Through these months, I get to bring joy in other families and to our little rescues - it’s the best feeling ever.
If you’re looking for a new buddy to share life with, I’m here to help. Because trust me, there is something magical about the love of a rescue, it fills your life with so much happiness and warmth that it makes one feel truly complete.
Anna
Hi, I'm Anna and I can't imagine my life without animals! I'm surrounded by two fur babies at home and would like to have even more :) I can't really tell you if I'm a 'cat person' or a 'dog person', I love them all and can't differentiate. I'm very proud to be part of this team and hope one day all cats and dogs will find their forever home. Until then, we are here to help!
Dóra
Hi, my name is Dóra and I started my journey at Rescue Dogs and Cats NL as a foster. I absolutely love being part of this beautiful mission of helping kitties finding their forever homes. I live in Amsterdam with my husband and in 2022 we rescued a ginger cat from the streets of Hungary and flew him to the Netherlands (we named him Ginger Joe). Fostering is a little bit more complicated when you have your own furball at home, so I decided to continue supporting the organisation as a Cat Adoption Coordinator instead. My purpose is to help you find your four-legged match that you can spend many happy years with. Let's be honest, we don't just rescue them, but they also rescue us in a way as well.
Emily
Hi, I'm Emily, an American imported to the Netherlands by my Dutch husband. I moved here in 2018 with my baby (cat), Per. Sadly, he passed away in 2022 and I filled the void by taking walks and making friends with all the neighborhood cats, and now volunteering as a cat coordinator at RDCNL since Feb 2024. I love helping and connecting cats and people, and feel the most joy when I see the huge smiles from the match.
Evelina
Hi, my name is Evelina, I am from Lithuania. I am definitely a cat person. Whenever I see a cat, the joy overwhelms me. If I was a cat, I would be a tuxedo cat.
Why I volunteer with RDCNL? Because of this most rewarding feeling when a cat finds loving home. Unexpectedly, I met other volunteers who share their time and dedication and show their commitment in helping the rescues – that is a quality in people that I admire.
Just a year ago I was not sure I can visit the shelter without crying, I thought it is heartbreaking to see cats that live in the shelter and not with people. I found out that cats in the shelter have amazing friends – it is people volunteers and people do incredible job everyday by taking care of the cats.
If you never visited a shelter in your town, I encourage you to do so. Just to meet volunteers and offer your help. Know that any help is always needed: cleaning the rooms, feeding the pets, petting and brushing the cats, or playing with pets or walking the dogs.
If there is no shelter in your town, and you want to contribute to our Organization, check out the opportunity to foster or help others cat/dog sit their pet – an owner is happy, a pet is happy and you are happy too. Win win win.
Julija
My name is Julija. I am from Lithuania and live in the Netherlands. Ever since I was a child, animals have held a special place in my heart, and I have always felt a strong desire to help those who are mistreated or have a challenging life.
For many years, I have been wondering how I could directly make a difference in rescuing animals. Eventually, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was struck with an idea to assist Lithuanian animal shelters, and I decided to put my plan into action.
With Ramune, I co-founded RDCNL, and I can confidently say that it has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. Although we face numerous challenges while volunteering, at the end of the day, we forget about them and only remember the priceless moments when a rescue finds a new home and starts a new life with his/her adoptive family.
This experience has been amazing, largely due to the team we work with. It's been great to meet so many like-minded and dedicated people who share our passion for animal welfare, and I'm so happy and proud of what we have achieved together so far!
Kathi
My name is Kathi and volunteering for Rescue Dogs and Cats Netherlands 🇳🇱 has been such a fantastic experience!
So many favorite parts to mention-
I really enjoy working together with the compassionate people that care for the animals and all the other volunteers. The best part is seeing the re-homed cats in their new environment and also meeting the big hearted people that adopt them.
I have always had cats in my life (Thank you Mom and Dad!)
When I was around 6 years old our family cat decided to have her kittens on my bed while I was sleeping. I will never forget waking up to 5 beautiful kittens happily nursing.
Sylvester, Gray, Buffy, Lulu, Marcel, Jean Paul, just to name a few of the cats that we have adopted through the years, and now we have Lucia. Cats really do make a house a home. Perhaps you need to adopt a cat?
Ollie
Hi, my name is Ollie and I joined RDCNL in Oct 2022. As a Cat Adoption Coordinator (aka. Cat Matchmaker) I enjoy meeting new people, helping them finding the purfect fur babies and sharing their memorable journeys as rescue cat owners.
It is fair to say I grew up with dogs and enjoyed their company. But ever since I cuddle the very first cat, I knew I am a total cat person and there's no going back.
Professionally I work as international business manager so for over a decade I was constantly moving across continents and didn't feel responsible to own pets. Last year I finally settled in Netherlands, adopting a cat was obviously the first thing on the list after getting the house key. I'm now a proud cat mom of two wonderful RDCNL rescues - Gabriel and Alfie. Being a cat mom and a Cat Adoption Coordinator give me so much joy for changes I make in someone's life.
Happy you visit our website and get to know our volunteers. If you decide to adopt with us, I look forward to talking to you soon!
Ramune
Hi, my name is Ramune and I’m part of this initiative because I love animals. When I was a kid, I cried to get a dog till I got one. Ever since then I have always been surrounded by dogs and enjoyed their company a lot. More than 10 years ago my mum and I went to a shelter in Lithuania to adopt a cat. I was shocked to see how many beautiful sweet rescues there are and in what poor conditions they are kept. But the most heartbreaking was to leave these loving dogs and cats behind lonely in their cages. I wished we had been able to take more of them with us. From that time on, I kept checking the shelters' website for pictures of their rescues and hoped for each of them to be adopted as soon as possible. Unfortunately that was often not the case.
In 2020 I felt it was a time to do something more radical about it. First I started a fundraiser for Lithuanian rescues, then I went to visit multiple shelters just to get a better understanding of what they are dealing with. During that time a friend of mine from The Netherlands asked if she could help by adopting a dog from Lithuania. She adopted Lola who now lives happily ever after in The Hague. When visiting the shelters I could not resist but take some dogs and cats with me to foster and help them find loving homes. This hobby grew to a re-homing initiative.
About the same time when I started re-homing rescues from Lithuania in The Netherlands, I noticed that Julija was doing it as well. We got in touch and started working together. Now we have many other animal lovers who joined Rescue Dogs And Cats The Netherlands. For me it is a life fulfilling experience. No matter what happens in my life I always get cheered up by seeing how many beautiful souls we already have helped to break free from shelters and find their dream homes. Now I feel like I’m really making a change, this is a very empowering feeling that I wish every person would have. Thus if you feel like you want to make a change in a rescue’s and your own life, please join our initiative!
Renata
My name is Renata, I live in Scotland with my husband and two cats. I joined Rescue Dogs and Cats NL at the beginning of 2023; I have been writing texts for kitties who are looking for their forever home and I’m about to start supporting coordination of cat fostering.
Since early childhood I always had cats, all of them were strays, who found their way into my life. I have a wealth of knowledge and experience in domestic felines and would like to think I can befriend even the most challenging cats.
I am passionate about animal welfare and always wanted to be the voice for the ones who cannot speak for themselves. So when during my visit in the cat and dog shelter in Lithuania I was introduced to one of the volunteers at the RDCNL, I felt this was a fantastic opportunity to help the ones who need help the most.
Shelley
Hi! I’m Shelley. I’m from America and live in the Netherlands. I’ve always loved animals, especially cats and birds, and my dream in America was to run an animal shelter. I don’t have the space to do that here in NL, so I volunteer in order to help animals in any way I can! I really love when people adopt shy pets, old pets, and pets with extra medical needs. I adopted a shy cat from Rescue Dogs and Cats and a year later I became a volunteer. It has been wonderful to see how my cat went from a shy, scared cat to now being one of the most confident cats I’ve ever seen. I hope to change more animals’ lives now that I volunteer.
Shikha
Hi, I'm Shikha. I am Indian, living in the Netherlands. I'm a Cat Adoption Coordinator at Rescue Dogs and Cats, the Netherlands. I had the privilege of living with a Persian cat once who made my life beautiful than ever, so now I would like to spread that joy. My aim is to find purrfect forever homes for as many cats possible for as long as I can. I believe that it's not me who is helping in rescuing cats, the cats are rescuing me..!
